Located on the Pacific Ocean in Northern California, San Francisco is known as a world class city filled with amazing food, culture, and shopping. The city is known as a hub in the area, and has a metro population of just over four million people.
Wander the various neighborhoods and famous landmarks and attractions in San Francisco to really complete the vacation, there is plenty to see.
Most visitors will arrive in the San Francisco region via one of three area airports, the San Francisco International Airport located about twenty miles out of the city, nearby Oakland International Airport or San Jose airport.
One of the most famous of the San Francisco attractions has to be the famous Golden Gate Bridge. The area around the bridge is known as the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and provides a number of great activities from green space to picnic to beaches to stroll on and many waves to surf.
Within San Francisco the city is split up into a number of different neighborhoods, each of which offer something special for any visitor taking the time to spend an afternoon in them. In San Francisco, some of the most popular neighborhoods are Chinatown, which is the oldest and biggest in the United States. Another popular area is the waterfront, which features Fisherman’s Wharf as well as Pier 39.
The Western Addition is another popular area to visit, this area is home to the famous painted ladies, which are beautiful homes from the Victorian era. Nob Hill is another popular neighborhood for tourists to visit, as the area is filled with impressive old mansions and nearby Russian Hill, home to the famous curvy Lombard Street.
San Francisco is also home to a big sports culture as well. The professional baseball team, the Giants and the football team the 49ers, are high performing and draw massive crowds to games. Outside of professional sports, the San Francisco area also features wonderful surfing, wind surfing, bicycle paths, boating at the Aquatic Park and golf.
