Chicago
Gem of the Midwest
Chicago is one of the most visited cities in all of the United States. With a population of just under three million, and a metro area that swells to approximately ten million, Chicagoland, as it is called, has plenty of things to do.
Located on the banks of Lake Michigan, Chicago offers a combination of great sports, a thriving food scene and fantastic shopping.
In order to reach Chicago, most visitors will arrive at one of two airports, O’Hare International Airport, which is the second busiest hub in the world, or Midway International Airport. Chicago also has a big port, the Port of Chicago and a well established transit system run by the Chicago Transit Authority.
Sports and Shopping
Chicago is one of the premiere cities in the country to visit if sports are a big draw. Thousands of visitors head to Chicago all year long to catch games for the local teams, the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs and White Sox. Because of the big focus on sports, Chicago is a great place to catch a game either at one of the famous stadiums like Wrigley Field or at a few of the many bars that surround the stadiums.
Beyond sports, Chicago also has fantastic shopping as well. Head over to the area of town known as the Magnificent Mile, where visitors will find upscale shopping from retail shops like Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Gucci and Ralph Lauren.
Hot Food Scene
Whereas in the past when most thought about eating in Chicago beer and brats came to mind, the food scene in the area has evolved. Now Chicago is home to a number of high class dining establishments, hot new gastropubs and of course, plenty of spots to grab a traditional brat. When looking for a great meal head over to places like Chop Shop and Rockit Burger Bar.
Of course, the most famous of Chicago food, the deep dish pizza, is still alive and well at many area eateries. To sample some of the deep dish best try Toni’s Pizza & Organic Pasta and Lou Malnati’s Pizza.
