The municipality of Wennigsen is situated only 15 km south-west of Hanover, at the foot of the Deister (a chain of hills). Around the year 1200, an abbey for the Augustinian nuns was built in Wennigsen. Today, the quiet, peaceful and yet central Tagungszentrum Johanniterhaus Kloster with its old minster has been housing the centre of the Knights Hospitaller in North Germany since 1882.
