Karpacz: A Picturesque Piece of Poland
Settled upon the serene slopes of Mount Sniezka is Karpacz, a majestic mountain town that offers visitors an excellent selection of energetic excursions. Scientific curiosities and architectural surprises add the town’s mystical air and explain why millions of visitors flock to enjoy the snow-smothered slopes and breath-taking beauty of this provincial place. A cosmopolitan culture is evident in the fabulous cuisine of the town, the best of which is served in the refined restaurants of the west side.
Scientific Surprises
Karpacz boasts one of Poland’s scientific surprises in the form of its Gravity Hill, a geological anomaly and optical illusion which makes objects appear to be travelling uphill rather than downhill. Many fun-filled hours can be spent upon this natural phenomenon, rolling bottles and observing the stone sign that mark the area as a ‘place of disturbed gravitation.’
The Wonder of Wang Church
The fine ecclesiastical example of Wang Church is considered by many to be an architectural anomaly due to its Nordic origin and Norwegian appearance. The church is one of 400 chapels built upon the bank of Norway’s lake Vang then transported to Poland after demand outweighed the space within the church. The wooden walls and elegant edges of this unique structure adds to the imitable atmosphere of Karpacz.
An Appetite for Art
Satisfy an appetite for both art and typical Eastern European cuisine at the Bistro Aurora, a distinctive and dynamic diner that specialises in regional delicacies. A decidedly political theme is evident from the socialist paraphernalia and portraits of prominent politicians; however, this vibrant interior does not detract from the excellence of the traditional Polish food.
